15/07/2014 Note - Celtic have asked Reykjavic if they can swap the first leg of the tie to Iceland rather than Scotland. According to the KR's official website this request has already been granted and the first leg will be in Iceland with the 2nd leg in Edinburgh a week later. Note - home clubs fix the kick-off time for all matches of the qualifying phase and the play-offs. Exact dates are agreed on by Celtic and the other club after the draw is made. The home match for this tie was played at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh because Celtic Park was being used for the Commonwealth Games 2014. Celtic needed to win through three rounds to qualify for the Group stages - the 2nd qualifying round, the Third qualifying round and the Play-offs round. In these qualifying rounds and the play-off stage, clubs play two matches against each other on a home-and-away basis. The club which scores the greater aggregate of goals qualifies for the next round, with away goals and then penalties used to determine the winner in the event of a draw. Clubs that lose in the 2nd qualifying round are eliminated from all UEFA competition. Clubs eliminated in the third qualifying round are admitted to the play-offs for the UEFA Europa League. Clubs eliminated in the play-offs round are admitted to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. |

Murrayfield Stadium 3-0 (0-2) Celtic lost this match 0-2 and were put out on a 1-6 aggregate to fall into the play-off round of the Europa League. Later it turned out that Legia played a player that was under suspension in this match and were punished by UEFA. Celtic were awarded a 3-0 'walkover' result and re-instated in the Champions League. Legia went to the UEFA Europa League. Legia appealed UEFA's decision on 14/08/14 to be re-instated in the Champions League but it was dismissed. Legia have indicated that they will now take their case to CaS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). 18 August 2014 - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has denied the urgent request for provisional measures filed by the Legia Warszawa SA in the course of its appeal against the UEFA Appeals Body decision of 13 August 2014. |

06/07/2014 Teemu Pukki scored for Celtic in a 1-1 draw with Rapid Vienna in the second match of their series of pre-season friendlies in Austria. Virgil van Dijk scored an o.g. that gave the Austrians a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when he glanced a header past Lukasz Zaluska in the Celtic goal. Why Celtic agreed to play this lot is a mystery to us. Unless we are forced to play them again by being drawn against them in European competiton we shouldn't even acknowledge that they exist. If anyone wants to argue that then you should point to how they conned us out of Europe in 1984. |

13/01/2015 Joe Thomson's first goal for the big team. Debut for Paul McMullan. No programme issued. Ronny Deila rested most of his first eleven for Celtic's final match in the Torneo Internacional de Fútbol de Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. Leigh Griffiths was given a start and managed to put Celtic one up in the first minute of the game but it was all downhill from there. Sparta scored three times before half-time, including a penalty in the last minute of the half. The manager brought on Nir Bitton and Efe Ambrose at half-time to add some experience to the team and it helped. Celtic got back into the match and 17 year old Joe Thomson gave the Hoops some hope with a fine shot and goal from outside the penalty box. The match ended 2-3 to Sparta and Celtic's first time at the Maspalomas Cup ended without a win. |
