Celtic used a new cover design for the first programme of season 2018/2019. Like last season's Celtic Park issues, the 52 page programme is bound using the 'Perfect' format rather than the old 'Saddle Stiching' method. Saddle Stitching is the most basic and inexpensive form of binding methods. The printed pages are stapled together and then trimmed to size. Perfect binding is done by gluing the pages together at the spine and then wrapping the cover around the glued pages. This method is more expensive than saddle stitching, but brings added value to the final product. Programmes with perfect bind have a flat spine, which provides an opportunity to add design and copy on it. If you look closely at a programme for this (or last) season, you will find details of the opponents, the competition, the date and venue of the match.

Staples used in sadlle stitching cause problems for collectors as they slowly rust and will eventually tarnish and damage the printed paper. Perfect binding prevents this cause of programme damage. The greatest benefit of using perfect binding is the longevity it gives to the programme. Unlike saddle stitching, perfect binding does not damage the paper over time.
