FRIENDLY
YEOVIL TOWN F.C. 2 CELTIC F.C. 0
Tuesday, 4 April 1950
Kick-off:
15.15 | Attendance: unknown
| Referee: W. Edwards (ENGLAND)
HUISH PARK, YEOVIL
Yeovil Town were a Southern League side when this friendly was played. In the season before, they won the Southern League Cup and had a giant-killing run in the 1948/49 FA Cup beating Bury (3-1) and Sunderland (2-1), ending up in an 8-0 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford that is the Glovers record defeat to this day.. Moving on nearly 50 years to January 1995, shortly after their best finish ever in the Conference League, Graham Roberts was appointed manager of Yeovil. He managed the team to demotion back to the Isthmian League (ICIS). After getting rid of Roberts, Yeovil secured promotion back into the Conference in 1997 after winning the ICIS League (as it was then known) with a record number of points - 101. Roberts was a cluggger with no skill as a player and it looks like he's even worse as a manager. Today (2008/09), Yeovil Town now play in Championship 1. They were Nationwide Conference Champions in season 2002/03 and Coca Cola League Two Champions in 2004/05. |
